Fig Garden, Matang Wildlife Centre

The area designated as the ‘Fig Garden’, some 0.072 km2 in size, is drained by three streams, namely, Sg. Batu, Sg. Entawa and Sg. Rayu. The garden will be planted with fig and non-fig species in an effort to rehabilitate and enrich the area. Eventually the tree species composition will be bias to fig species. An initial batch of about 300 plants, comprising 6 fig species and 8 other plant species: Jambu Laut, Ubah, Kubal, Dabai, Bintangor Laut, Bintangor Bukit, Selangan Batu and Engkabang Melapi will be planted. The mixed planting concept is adopted in order to provide suitable trees for nesting and sufficient food supply for not only hornbills but also other animal species.
